Glitter Ombre Nails

Hey guys!

I did a little glittery ombre on my nails for Labor Day weekend as I was going out to a few places and am having a little barbecue today. This was my second attempt at an ombre in nail form (the first attempt ended badly and messily). It was relatively easy to do this time, but I think that’s due to the amount of sparkles I had covering the nail color.

First thing you’ll need is the darker base color, an in-between color, and a LOT of sparkles. You’ll also want to rip a pieces off of a sponge (you can use a kitchen or makeup sponge).

I use the first darker grey color (Essie’s “Cashmere Bathrobe”) and dabbed it onto the sponge, and then lightly dabbed that on the cuticle area of my nail and up to about the middle of the nail.  I let that dry completely, and then used the silver polish (Sally Hansen’s “Celeb City”) and put that on the other side of the sponge, and then dabbed it where the grey color ended, and then up toward the tip of the nail but not all the way.

I used a very glittery sparkle polish on top of that, and I made sure to use one with chunky glitter (Nicole by OPI’s “Party Bus”). I used two coats of this and really laid on the sparkle so as to conceal anything that didn’t look like a smooth ombre. I didn’t even have to use a topcoat with this, and for a few days of activities it has held up great!

Makeup Look Using Ipsy Bag August 2014

ipsy sample

Hello Everyone!

I did a quick look at the makeup I used from my Ipsy bag this month. I know these aren’t the best pictures like last months, but I had no one to take them for me and I wanted to show you the best I could what it looked like. I originally used the Urban Decay liner as just a smudgy smokey look into my top lashes, but I then decided to see if I could wing it out, and it worked surprisingly well! The eye shadow was a bit translucent on my skin tone, so it wasn’t worth trying to show that up close, but you can see the Coastal Scents blush palette looks peachy and natural.

Hope you enjoyed!

End-of-August Find: Drop Earrings

Hey guys!

I have a great jewelry item that’s a bit of a splurge, but would be totally worth it if you’re looking for earrings that can be used for basically any formal or classy event going on from now till Christmas. I’ve been kind of slacking on wearing any earrings because I feel a bit uninspired, but I ventured out to find a good pair that aren’t overpowering. These are from Nordstrom, and are pretty pricey at $64, but they are really great quality for a formal jewelry piece.

They are by Kendra Scott, and the reason I was drawn to them is their shape. To me, it looks like an arrowhead, and with all the fringe and indian-inspired trends this fall, I think they would be very complimentary. I thought I’d share them with you, and they have many other colors besides this one to choose from. This color, “Gray Catseye”, is an awesome neutral that will match probably any holiday or cocktail-party ensemble you come up with!

My New Fall Boots + How I Styled Them

Hello everyone!

Just about once a year I decide to splurge on a good solid pair of shoes. This year, being so close to fall, I decided a nice boot was my best pick.

These light-brown boots are from Asos. I am shocked (and a bit ashamed) to say it was my first Asos purchase! But I checked so many sites and stores like Pac Sun and Urban Outfitters only to be disappointed at the options and prices. These boots are called “Riff Raff” and I’m not sure if that’s the style, because these are an Asos brand shoe. But it looks like a chelsea boot to me, just with a good sturdy heel. The main reason I liked the look of them is because when I’m walking across campus and there’s slippery leaves or snow starting to fall, I want a boot that isn’t like my riding boots, but also isn’t a snow or rain boot. They look very stylish on, and since the platform and heel are all black, they match virtually everything. I imagine as it gets colder these next few months I’ll be stacking comfy socks into them and wearing them with tights. I can’t wait! This summer has brought some cooler-than-normal weather, so when I took these pictures my feet weren’t particularly sweltering yet. For a late summer night, pairing them with a long skirt or jeans would be perfect. These were just over $100, and they are real leather, so I think it was a pretty good deal for the quality of the shoe.

As far as this set of pictures, I wore a simple black dress from H&M and my white kimono from TJMaxx over it. The lightness of the dress and kimono were perfect for the shoes because they are pretty chunky, so I didn’t look like a complete flower child. I just wore my hair natural and did a gold-ish eye look paired with Mac’s lip glass in “Just Superb”. The more we get into fall the more comfortable I’ll be wearing these. I think chunky shoes with big comfy pieces of clothing are going to be popular this fall (but that’s just my prediction!). There was a black color as well, but I think they may have sold out on the site. After shopping with Asos, I’m intrigued to use them more. Because I spent over $100, they gave me better shipping for free. I got the package in maybe 4 or 5 days, so if you want a quick buy that is great quality, check out what they have!

My Ipsy Bag: August 2014

Hey everyone!

I received my Ipsy Bag a couple days ago and have spent some time using the products so this time I can give you a more balanced review. Once again, I am very happy with my bag and I think this might be my favorite month!

I received a dry shampoo that I am so excited to continue using it. I sprayed it once when I had gone awhile without a shower, and it made my hair feel absolutely wonderful, and the size of the bottle was pretty big! The smell isn’t spectacular but I don’t mind it that much.

The lip conditioner is honestly just a chap stick, and I only used it once to see how it would feel. I do like the feeling of it and the smell is very tropical!

The blush samples were actually very tiny, and I know it’s hard to see that from the picture. I have already use them by swirling my blush brush on both of them evenly and put it right on the apples of my cheeks, and the color was highly pigmented and beautiful on top of my freckled skin, and I suspect it’ll look good when I’m paler into the fall.

The eyeshadow s a small round compact and I’ve never heard of the company, but it doesn’t seem like a cheap-made eyeshadow. It’s a compressed powder that is so shimmery and would look great for a natural look or even with a swipe of liquid liner. It isn’t quite gold, it has a very iridescent look to it that isn’t glittery, more like a shine. I haven’t used this on my eyes yet but I think when I do it’ll be a great compliment to every skin tone.

The last item was the best item of all, the Urban Decay eye pencil. I saw that I would receive one item from Urban Decay and I was so happy with this eye pencil. It’s in a dark purple color, and I know I used to wear purple eyeshadow in high school to make the green in my eyes stand out. The texture is very soft and easy to blend with your fingers or a brush.

In all, I think this was a great Ipsy bag. It made me really excited for things to come for fall, and the colors are all good transitions for autumn colors as well. I will be posting a makeup look with the specifics on how each of the makeup items perform. I also can’t wait to keep using this dry shampoo as it’s (surprisingly) my first one ever!

How were your makeup boxes this month?

5 Nail Polishes To Carry You Into Fall

Essie’s Cashmere Bathrobe

Nicole by OPI’s Party In The Penthouse

Zoya’s Stevie

Essie’s Lollipop

Maybelline’s Porcelain Party

I thought I’d show you guys some of the polishes I’ve been using all summer that can work perfectly for fall. You’ll notice some of these colors are basic summer colors, but I’ve also been using dark shades like the gray and blue polishes. Each of these colors worked so well with different summer looks, so I thought I’d tell you how they work in summer, and how they’ll work in the fall.

Essie’s Cashmere Bathrobe is a rich gray color that was perfect for some formal events that I had to attend to and weren’t too bright and over the top. It is opaque when applied, but if you look closely at the bottle it has small glittery specks in it. I found this was a very sophisticated color that wasn’t a neon orange (like a typical summer color), but it isn’t quite black, so it isn’t too dark either. I think it’s obvious this would be a great fall color because it’s basically a neutral, but without being too dark.

Nicole by OPI’s Party In The Penthouse is also one of the darker colors that I used, but the blue was more fun. It is opaque, but you need two coats in order to get a shiny, shimmery blue color that is so unique. Once again, since it’s dark it will work quite nicely with fall colors, and the blue is a bit unexpected while being chic.

Zoya’s Stevie is a new favorite that I got sent to me and I was amazed at the interesting “Pixie Dust” coating that it dries as. It was a pretty pastel lavender for summer, but in the fall it would look beautiful with all black outfits or perhaps lush scarves and mittens.

Essie’s Lollipop has been in my collection for a long time, and it also seems to be very popular for being the perfect, fun red shade. Red is a no brainer for summer months, but in the fall it seems unexpected with your deep maroons and rich browns, and it will compliment those colors very nicely.

Lastly, Maybelline’s Porcelain Party is my favorite white nail color, even though it is such a basic shade. When I wanted to channel Ariana Grande, it was perfect for a summery girly look, and it goes with everything. Usually black is the most popular neutral when fall rolls around, but going for a bright white will make you seem bold without bedazzling your whole hand.

Makeup Look Using Ipsy Products: July 2014

Hello there! I hope you’re all enjoying the last weeks of summer.

I promised this about a month ago when my last Ipsy bag came, and here we are now in August (and my August bag just came in the mail) so I knew it was time to share this with you! I did a pretty simple look with what makeup was provided last month in my particular Ipsy bag, which was a cream eyeshadow, a bronzer, and a lip color.

I really enjoyed this look because it is pretty smokey and still very easy to achieve. i did add a bit of pencil liner to my top eyelid to deepen the smoky brown cream shadow, and I loved the way it looked together. The bronzer was very subtle, but I think it’ll be awesome for fall, as well as this great pop of pink on my lips!

I hope you enjoyed this, and my August Ipsy bag post is coming very soon (possibly tomorrow or Monday, as I’m going into Boston tomorrow).

My Lush: August 2014

Hey guys!

I stopped at Lush for my monthly stash of items. I wanted to get a few before I have to go back to school in September.

I only got 4 items as usual, and I decided if I go into Lush and get more than my usual 4 or 5 bath items, and get more things to experiment with, I’ll call that a haul. For now, these will be my monthly (Mandatory) Lush visits for my bath needs. The one reason I’m not looking forward to going back to college is there are no bath tubs (and if there were, I definitely wouldn’t use them).

The first one I got was Big Blue and I don’t think I’ve used this one before (I would remember the seaweed inside I think). It smelled like the ocean and had lots of salt, so it was really relaxing for summertime, especially since I hadn’t gotten to the beach once this summer!

I got another new purchase with Sunny Side, which is a LOT more sparkly looking online. I think that it must rub off in the store from people touching it. The other new purchase I got was Rose Queen, which is a smaller bath bomb and smells just like roses!

The re-purchased Lush was the Creamy Candy Bubble Bar. I got this when it was freshly spring, and it smelled so sweet like bubblegum! I didn’t really have a theme here, I just got what looked interesting and new to me because I’m sure the next time I go, there will be new fall and autumn themed items I’m going to buy. It was an interesting pick of scents for the end of summer!

My Lush Cocktail this Month: Big Blue & Sunny Side. This was recommended when I was in the store by an employee, who said it makes a “mermaid bath”, and it sure does feel like one with the seaweed and salt mixed with gold glitter in the blue water.

What Lush are you loving this month?
