OOTD- Getting Over A Summer Cold

OOTD- Getting over a coldIMG_1647IMG_1635IMG_1638IMG_1631

Hey everyone! I recently got over a cold, and it was the absolute worst! I hate colds in the summer because you need to stay in bed when it’s nice and warm out and you know you could be doing so many things outside. After a day of being bedridden I was itching to get some fresh air, so my boyfriend took me to get some crepes! I love crepes (mine was Nutella and strawberry) and it definitely made me feel a little bit better.

You’ve probably heard the news: scallops are in.

I want to apologize for the brightness of the first picture, as I went to take it the sun was beaming on me and a minute later, it was pouring (for the rest of the day as well).

Ipsy June 2015

Makeup bags are not just a fad, I’ve had mine for over a year now, and I’m still in love with it!

This months bag was definitely summer themed, and it had some great thing inside it. The only thing that I’ve sampled so far was the face mask, and I loved it. But a primer is a great necessity for summer since you don’t want your makeup dripping off your face. The colors in this bag were also amazing. In all, I’m very happy with it!

1. Shea Moisture Lipstick “Sarah”

I haven’t used this yet, but the color is amazing! It isn’t too pigmented like other lip crayons. It has an iridescent sheen that will look beautiful in the sun. It seems like an easy color to wear with simple summer makeup.

2. trèStique Mini Shadow Crayon “Aspen Pine”

I’m so excited to use this! It’s exciting to see such an earthy color for summer. It reminds me of camping in the mountains and taking pictures of trees. There is some glitter in this which will make for a beautiful eye look. It blends pretty well!

3. dr. brandt Blackhead Extractor Mask

I’ve used this in the morning a few times since getting it and it really makes my skin soft and ready for makeup!

4. pure brazilian Leave-In Conditioner

I haven’t tried this yet either, but I’m excited! First of all, this is a huge sample. Second, it smells delicious! I’m excited that I got this because it’s easy for my nighttime routine. Putting this in when your hair is wet and just letting it sit is much less work than the ones you need to rinse out.

5. smashbox Foundation Primer

This was so exciting to get in my bag! I love smashbox products and this is a really good item from them. I haven’t used it yet, but there is a lot in this sample to last a long time. It doesn’t feel too silicon-y, but it also isn’t liquid-y either. I’ll let you know how this feels under my foundation. It’s a super important item for summer!

Fashion Illustration: My Summer Style

my summer style

There are a lot of factors to consider when you move our wardrobe over to “summer clothes.” There are so many different summer styles and trends! You could go boho or nautical. You could go casual or sporty. I find that with less clothing on your body, it’s more of a challenge to have a distinct “style” in the summer. Because of this, I’ve decided to simplify the things I wear in the summer to a nice, casual look that will also keep me cool.

I’ve embraced wearing a simple tee with jeans, and it is the best summer outfit combination!

I’ve also been extremely into succulents lately. I have a few hanging over my bed, and a few more scattered throughout my yard. Another obsession for me this summer is going on bike rides! What have you been into lately?

What I’m Reading This Weekend

JuneLettersStudio_Hand-Drawn+Vectors

I loved reading as a child.

I sometimes find it challenging to keep reading now since I need to set aside time for reading. Life gets a bit busy and suddenly, reading feels like a chore. If you don’t have time for a long read session, here are some great blog posts that still count as reading (in my opinion) that you can look over during your morning coffee.

I really loved each of these and they felt like nice little snippets of things that you could attempt, or maybe they’ll just amuse you. My favorite was personally the guest post at Becoming Minimalist about Minimalism & The Pursuit of Happiness.

Take a look at these and see what you think! People do many posts like this and I won’t make this a regular thing. But this weekend you might need a few minutes to wind down and surf the net. These might interest you! I find it relaxing to see what other bloggers are up to at the moment. A nice piece of writing really sets the mood for the day.

Chocolate Overload

Unknown

Happy June!

I made homemade brownies for the first time yesterday, and I had to share them with you! The recipe I found is from Style Me Pretty. I decided to give them a try, and they were delicious.

Ready in 40 Minutes                   Moderately Easy                  Made 16 Squares

Ingredients

10 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into ½-inch slices
1¼ cups pure cane sugar
¾ cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
½ teaspoon fine-grain sea salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder
2 cold large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
⅔ cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup overflowing cup chocolate chips

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees placing your rack in the lower third of the oven. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper. Grease the parchment paper (we used coconut oil spray but anything will do).
To brown your butter, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Continue to cook the butter, while stirring constantly with a whisk or rubber spatula. After about 5 minutes, you should notice the butter foaming a bit and starting to turn a deep golden color. Keep stirring for another 3-5 minutes until the tiny reddish specks appear and your butter smells nutty and delish.

2. Remove your pan from heat and stir in the sugar until incorporated. Next, stir in the cocoa powder, salt and baking powder until completely blended,. Let this mixture cool for 10 minutes. **Very important to remove mixture from heat source and let cool for 10 minutes or a minimum of 5.

3. Add one of the eggs, stirring the mixture vigorously. Once incorporated fully, add the second egg, again stirring vigorously. The mixture should thicken a bit and have a glossy texture, but shouldn’t separate or become difficult to stir.

4. Add in the vanilla extract and the flour, stirring until just incorporated. Now, beat them brownies! Stir vigorously for about 1 minute.

5. Fold in the chocolate chips. Or chocolate slivers or almonds or whatever else you can dream up. Traditionalists…stick to chocolate chips or chunks and you can’t go wrong.

6. Pour batter in the lined pan, swirling the top with a knife if so you fancy,.

7. Bake on the lower rack for about 25 minutes. Some ovens might go a little longer, but the important thing is not to overcook.
Once the brownies are completely cool, dig in. And maybe scoop some vanilla ice cream on top.
