Rays Of Sunshine

_DSC0043_DSC0045_DSC0044

After a strangely warm winter, I’m kind of looking forward to spring. I know that a brutal winter might still be coming, but part of me is buying into the floral prints and warm, inviting colors. I wanted to do a nail look that incorporates the happiness of spring with some bold shapes. I went to TJMaxx to get some cheap polishes (Deborah Lippmann for $4!!!!) and went to work!

This is honestly a very easy thing to recreate. I just painted two coats of the blue polish and waited until that dried completely. Then, I angled the yellow and swiped it on either side of the nail to make an inside-out-triangle shape.

If you try this with different colors, send me the pictures and let me know how they look! The great part about this design is that you can really use it with any bold colors.

Winter Body Scrub

_DSC0041

I couldn’t resist. I had so much extra cinnamon and sugar that I was itching to make a body scrub. I picked up this adorable jar at Target, and here we are!

It’s winter, and let’s be honest, we are all dry and need a good scrub to get that dead skin off (ew).

I actually got a beautiful scrub and body butter set for Christmas and I loved the scrub. The scent was very fresh and I loved it, but I also wanted a sweeter scented one that I could use as well. I found this super easy to make! Hopefully you have everything in your kitchens to create this as well.

(You need a jar)

2 Cups brown sugar

3/8 cup of honey

1/4 cup of coconut oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon cinnamon

You basically just mix all these together in a bowl, and use your hands to mash up the oil and everything together. I added slightly more vanilla to give it a cinnamon-vanilla scent. The coconut scent just barely comes through, so it smells great and it feels amazing.

If you try this out, let me know how it goes!

Winter Blues Haul

_DSC0020

I’m sure you’ve heard people talk about how fast Christmas came and went, so  much so that everyone is sounding like a broken record. But can I just say it? Wow, that was fast! As you know if you read my last post, I took a well-needed break from the internet and social media (and this blog, consequently) so once the holidays were over, I wanted to get excited for this coming year.

I don’t think many people would say winter is their favorite season. It’s cold and in a lot of places, there is a lot of snow. Some like the winter for the holidays, and once they are over, so is their love for the season. I’m here to rescue you from that.

I recently bought a lot of things with money from Christmas that I intentionally got to get excited for the rest of the season. I actually love winter. I love the cold. I love the snow. I love it all. But there are times that I get a little sad when the days get dark so easily and I feel like hibernating as if I were a bear.

Here were the things I got! I hope you enjoy, they are all very random, but are guaranteed to make you feel better about the rest of the winter season.

Milani Lipstick in No. 66 “Matte Passion”

What’s better to make you feel good than buying some new makeup? I decided I would go for a lipstick to get me excited for winter outfits. Because most of my winter lip colors are dark reds or bright, Christmasy reds, I decided on this one because of it’s orange tint. I think it’s appropriate to liven up your dark outfits, and it’ll be an easy transition for spring. I’m currently also in denial about how many red lipsticks I have, and justify it by telling myself they are technically different hues.

Forever 21 Pajama Flannel

I love flannel for winter (who doesn’t) and I also love it for sleepwear. I got beautiful pairs of pajamas for Christmas that I adore, but I was looking for something I could lounge around in without getting hot. I found this tunic-type of flannel and it’s almost like a night gown, but more of a long night-shirt. It keeps me warm and I can layer it with leggings or long socks, but at night, it’s cool enough to sleep in. I always get hot at night (especially my legs) and I love having this on for the right about of comfort. Also, it makes me look cute and wintry, so I can make excuses for why I’m in pajamas all day.

SkinnyDip Phone Case

So, I know I got a new phone case in May and it’s by my favorite stationary makers ever, Rifle Paper & Co. And I know I don’t really need a new phone case. But this was the coolest thing I had ever seen. The glittery and stars inside of the case move around because there is a layer of water, so it’s like a glittery lava lamp for your phone. Yes, that’s right, a glittery lava lamp for your phone. I think I’m going to switch between the two cases because they are both awesome. But this one just really fuels my nerd obsession with space and looks lovely.

Chalk and Cork Board Wall Set (From Target)

I think we all wait until spring until we clean because after the holidays we are in this weird Christmas hangover where we are depressed and mostly lazy. I let most of my stuff accumulate and it gets really really stressful until I finally get the courage to clean it all. While organizing, I decided to get something for my wall that could be decorative but also keep me in line with cleaning and projects, so I got this from Target!

Animal Crossing City Folk

I really needed to get a new game to get me through this vacation, and since I love Animal Crossing New Leaf, I decided to try out City Folk. I use this on my WiiU and it’s actually very relaxing after a long hard day of eating chocolate and sleeping to create an imaginary digital town (nerd alert).

What have all of you bought since Christmas? Hopefully these suggestions will help you get through the rest of winter!

Makeup I Wore In November

_DSC0299_DSC0301_DSC0302nailstopcoat

Hello there my lovelies! If you’re in the states, Happy Thanksgiving! I’ve just got done preparing a lot of food and treats and finally took a break to upload this. It’s so nice when you can take a break in between peeling potatoes and frosting a cheesecake. I wanted to share with you the makeup I’ve worn this month!

I’ve gone for a lot of natural brown colors this month with hints of gold here and there. I think it’s appropriate for November since next month will probably decked out in holiday goodness.

Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette- I’ve actually been using this every single day for over two weeks. Just look at those colors, gorgeous and still very natural for day time!

Luxie Eyeshadow, Color No. 290- I swatched this color all the way to the left of the colors from the palette so you can see how it looks on the skin. It’s a beautiful red-toned brown which is perfect for in your crease or under the eye. It’s a very normal looking brown, but it’s a great staple and I love it!

Essie Polish in “Summit of Style”- I actually bought this at Ocean State Job Lot and got an incredible price, so check there if you ever want cheap Essie! This gave an amazing gold foil effect that I love so much. I think it’s a great color of fall and a good transition for holiday nail art.

Seche Top Coat- I’m just not sure what I used before this. No matter what polish I put on, this keeps it in place without any chips. I think this time of year is hard as it gets cold and we are hard on our brittle nails (ew). But I keep repurchasing this and honestly will never use anything else. A wonderful product for any Christmas nail art that you want to save. Highly recommend that you buy this, or ask for it for Christmas!

What makeup/beauty products have you been using in November? Let me know!

Introducing Heatherwood Issue No. 1 (Autumn)

Heatherwood Cover.001

If you’re looking for inspiration for fall, for the upcoming holidays, or even just an escape from your everyday life, you can check out my digital magazine. I worked so hard on this and I’m so pleased with the result. The magazine is all about Autumn (which I realize is a little late, but I think it’ll still be exciting.) Inside are illustrations, writing, and photography to help spark something in you. I think this would be perfect for curling up with your tablet or iPad and chilling out for awhile and looking through. Hopefully you feel as cozy reading it as I was making it.

Also, all work in the magazine are mine. There is a written entry and photograph from Bhavika and the link to her blog is in the zine to check out more of her awesome work. I was so happy that anyone submitted anything, and her writing went perfectly with the rest of the material. If you are hanging out today and preparing for Thanksgiving, this might be the perfect thing to help you unwind! Mostly this was just for fun to put all of my work in one place, so I’m happy I can even publish it at all. I’m excited to see what all of you think!

Preparing For Winter Haul | Ulta & H&M

Winter Haul_DSC0245_DSC0250_DSC0254_DSC0255_DSC0256_DSC0257_DSC0258_DSC0259

Sweaters are my go-to’s almost every day, so this time of year is wonderful when I can snuggle up in them.

The only issue was, I really wanted a Christmas sweater. I know that Christmas is very far away and I need to get it together. But I predict that when all the Christmas sweaters come out, they’ll be overpriced and snatched off the shelf. I wanted to get a head start on finding my perfect holiday sweater, but that led to me going and buying a few more things! Before I knew it, I had collected a little haul for myself.

All of these really do have a winter theme because they all remind me of Christmas or winter beauty care. I stopped at Ulta to treat myself to a few new things to help my dry skin and I bought some basics at H&M. I’m also aware that I already bought a sweater at H&M this month, but I don’t even care. Both of them are my all time favorites, I might have to just wait a little to wear this new one.

Christmas Deer Sweater- As I was looking around H&M, my eyes fell on this and I picked it up right away. I imagined myself near Thanksgiving time or in mid december wearing it while drinking hot chocolate. I decided right then and there to buy it! I don’t have any other sweater like this and I’m proud to own my first “Christmas sweater,” eve if it was $35. It feels slightly scratchy, but it honestly kept me so warm that I had to take it off because I was roasting, so it’s great for freezing cold winter days.

Wine and White Basic Tees- You might say, “Heather, this is a winter haul, why did you buy t-sirts!” Well, because winter is about layering and honestly, you might need a good old basic t-shirt. They were having a 2-For-$10 deal which is insane. The quality of the shirts is great and you can’t go wrong with a staple plain shirt to go with your outfits.

Sally Hansen Miracle Cure- The fall and winter makes my nails flake like crazy (which is really gross) so I bought this to combat it, and so far it works great!

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water- I watch so many Youtubers who use this cleanser or something similar, and they rave about the results. I think it’s because it’s very light and still washes away bacteria and extra makeup. I use this after already cleansing because I feel like it gets everything else off for good. Also, It’s so cheap! This is my first time using Simple products and I’m very happy with it. I think it’s worth repurchasing!

Maybelline Color Sensational Matte in “Siren in Scarlet”- Ok, this color is very bright. I put it on and thought, wow, that is pretty red. However, I don’t have a great pigmented red that packs a punch like this one. I think this will be perfect to wear around the holidays with my Christmas outfits and such. The matte is very useful because it stays in place all day, but it really doesn’t crumble or seem too dry. I think this is their new collection out, so go check them out because the formulation is wonderful!

Let me know what you’re planning to buy to get ready for these colder winter months! I know it’s early, I’m just being enticed with the coziness of November.

Makeup I’ve Been Wearing in October

IMG_2287

Something about wearing neutrals on your eyelids with a bit of glitter just screams “October!” to me. This month I’ve been trying to wear a natural eye look because my schedule is crazy and I honestly don’t have time for anything else. I found that with some earthy browns and minimal liner, you can get a nice fall style without going all out. I also have been pairing my simple eye with this cream blush that gives a rosy, natural tint to my cheeks.

Now that the weather is officially cold, I have fallen in love with my Lorac Pro palette again to give me that earthy vibe.

Lorac Pro Palette- If you still haven’t bought one of these, what are you doing?! The colors are glittery and extremely pigmented if you want an extra shine for a special night. But for everyday, my favorites have been taupe and black, which give a dark and rustic vibe. I also love the red tones in this palette, they remind me of the turning trees.

Natural & Organic Cream Blush- I never thought I’d be using this product as much as I have. I’m always skeptical with cream blushes because I doubt my ability to blend. But I actually feel like this formula gives you a lot of control and is very buildable. I generally think brushes are a good idea to blend cream blush, but since this is so small, I have to use my fingers. I warm the product up first and then dot it on my cheekbones before blending lights with my fingers. I usually build it up to a nice rosy flush, so I apply it twice.

What have you been wearing during October? PS! Sorry for picture quality. I left my camera at home.

Real Techniques Starter Set 2.0 Brushes | Review

brushes_DSC0239_DSC0240_DSC0241_DSC0242

Three day weekends really get me all mixed up.

I was positive today was Monday! I realized I had a blog post to put up for today and scrambled to get the pictures up. Basically, I was in desperate need of new makeup brushes. There’s nothing wrong with my old ones, but I need more of them. I never ever wash mine, and because of this, they are disgusting and my face breaks out. With more brushes to use, there is less dirty brushes and more time to clean some.

I only have one real techniques brush, and it’s actually one that came in this, so now I have two but I don’t even care.

The first one pictured is the Deluxe Crease Brush. I used this a couple days ago to put a very glittery shadow into my crease. All my other crease or blending brushes are quite small, and I was happy that this evenly blended every line. I hate having to go over the same spot over and over until it’s even. This brush made that so quick and simple, I was done in no time.

The second one is the Base Shadow Brush. I used this to pack on a shadow that isn’t usually pigmented, and it was a dream. It caught all the product and didn’t just fluff it around. Everything stayed right in the center of my eyelid. I have a few brushes that I use specifically for this, but this one is by far my favorite. I’m so happy to have another one in my collection. A basic shadow brush is always needed, and I never have a clean one.

The third one is the Brow Brush. I admittedly didn’t use this for my brows. The brush was way too big for them! I have a brow brush (MAC 266) and I never stray from it. But this is an excellent liner brush. There are a lot of times I want to use a shadow as a liner and this gives a perfectly straight line without being too harsh. It’s also perfect for getting on your lower lash line. I always needed a good brush for this, but my 266 was way too thin!

The last brush is the Fine Liner Brush. This is the brush I already had, but it’s also the brush I have to clean the most. Since this is for liner, you really have to clean it right after use or it gets disgusting, and this thing brush gives a straight, precise line every single time.

Have you used these? I know they are SUPER popular and I’m really late to the game, but I want to know your opinions.

October Lush Haul | Halloween & Glitter

_DSC0222_DSC0223_DSC0225_DSC0226_DSC0227

It seems like the entire internet is obsessed with the fall Lush that’s come out. I waited patiently until I could finally go, and I was grabbing things left and right. I picked up the new Halloween things (they were out last year too) and a few other things too.

I know this isn’t a big haul, but I don’t have much money to be spending on Lush, especially since I can only take baths at home and not at school. But I knew some of you would want to see this, so I took some pictures of them! Lush is so magical during the fall and winter. I went in and there were decorations and everyone was so cheerful. If you haven’t stopped in lately even just to browse, you should take a look.

I also want to say that the glittery Lush treats are always my favorite. I don’t think you can overlook the beautiful pumpkin or the revamped bubbleroons. They are always amazing and I can’t wait to relax into a hot bath on a crisp Autumn evening. This most certainly is one of the best parts of Autumn.

Lord of Misrule: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is one of my favorites. I say that a lot, but this has always been my all time favorite that I look forward to with seasonal releases. The smell of this is something you honestly can’t put into words. My advice is, just go sniff it. The color of it is a festive wine color and there are popping candies!

-The crown design on Lord of Misrule was inspired by the one worn by the ruler of the Pagan Feast of Fools, where a lowly peasant became Lord for a day.

-This Bath Bomb features Fair Trade vanilla absolute; the world’s first!

-Although commonplace today, black pepper was incredibly expensive in Medieval Europe.

Honey Bee: This bath bomb is very special to me because it was the first Lush product I ever bought! I was feeling nostalgic and thought it was time I tried it out again.

-A bath treat for the whole family; even the most sensitive of skins.

-Honey naturally moisturizes and softens as you soak in the caramel-colored waters.

-Sweet wild orange, perfect for gently cleansing and toning the skin, brightens your mood.

Sparkly Pumpkin: This is one of those fall bath items that smells amazing and sparkles brilliantly so you feel like your even got just a bit more festive.

-This pumpkin shares its scent with our Mr. Punch soap from LUSH Christmases past!

-Lime and grapefruit oils give this Bubble Bar an uplifting scent.

-A gold shimmering exterior will leave you sparkling in and out of the bath.

Rose Jam Bubbleroon: This was always one of my favorites, but they reformulated it so that it makes more bubbles AND they made it look like a sparkly rose!

-Want more of a great thing? Each Bubbleroon is made for two baths!

-Hop in the tub for the silkiest, softiest, rosiest-scented bubbles you’ve ever had.

-With Fair Trade Shea Butter in the base, Bubbleroons treat the skin to a softening and moisturizing soak.

What were your favorites out of these? And let me know what you’ve been buying at Lush!

Makeup I’ve Been Wearing In September

_DSC0205_DSC0206_DSC0207_DSC0212

Hello everyone! Happy Saturday.

I did a little post on the makeup that I wore all throughout September. For me, it’s been about neutral eyes, a creamy blush, and a neutral lip. This allows you to play around with eyeliner or even some sparkly shadows to go with the neutral colors.

I used all Ipsy products in this today. The eyeshadow palette by Nyx is amazing!!! I’ve mainly been using that light sparkly color all the way to the left. It gives a nice base without packing on a huge amount of color.

I also have been using the cream blush. I’ve been getting better at blending it and making the apples of my cheeks just rosy enough without being too much. This color is perfect for fall!

Lastly, I’ve been smudging this lip crayon onto my lips. It’s a little strong when you put it on heavily because it’s matte and very pale. But for an everyday look, I just use my finger to blend it out, and it looks very natural.

What makeup have you been wearing this past month?
