Winter Blues Haul

_DSC0020

I’m sure you’ve heard people talk about how fast Christmas came and went, so  much so that everyone is sounding like a broken record. But can I just say it? Wow, that was fast! As you know if you read my last post, I took a well-needed break from the internet and social media (and this blog, consequently) so once the holidays were over, I wanted to get excited for this coming year.

I don’t think many people would say winter is their favorite season. It’s cold and in a lot of places, there is a lot of snow. Some like the winter for the holidays, and once they are over, so is their love for the season. I’m here to rescue you from that.

I recently bought a lot of things with money from Christmas that I intentionally got to get excited for the rest of the season. I actually love winter. I love the cold. I love the snow. I love it all. But there are times that I get a little sad when the days get dark so easily and I feel like hibernating as if I were a bear.

Here were the things I got! I hope you enjoy, they are all very random, but are guaranteed to make you feel better about the rest of the winter season.

Milani Lipstick in No. 66 “Matte Passion”

What’s better to make you feel good than buying some new makeup? I decided I would go for a lipstick to get me excited for winter outfits. Because most of my winter lip colors are dark reds or bright, Christmasy reds, I decided on this one because of it’s orange tint. I think it’s appropriate to liven up your dark outfits, and it’ll be an easy transition for spring. I’m currently also in denial about how many red lipsticks I have, and justify it by telling myself they are technically different hues.

Forever 21 Pajama Flannel

I love flannel for winter (who doesn’t) and I also love it for sleepwear. I got beautiful pairs of pajamas for Christmas that I adore, but I was looking for something I could lounge around in without getting hot. I found this tunic-type of flannel and it’s almost like a night gown, but more of a long night-shirt. It keeps me warm and I can layer it with leggings or long socks, but at night, it’s cool enough to sleep in. I always get hot at night (especially my legs) and I love having this on for the right about of comfort. Also, it makes me look cute and wintry, so I can make excuses for why I’m in pajamas all day.

SkinnyDip Phone Case

So, I know I got a new phone case in May and it’s by my favorite stationary makers ever, Rifle Paper & Co. And I know I don’t really need a new phone case. But this was the coolest thing I had ever seen. The glittery and stars inside of the case move around because there is a layer of water, so it’s like a glittery lava lamp for your phone. Yes, that’s right, a glittery lava lamp for your phone. I think I’m going to switch between the two cases because they are both awesome. But this one just really fuels my nerd obsession with space and looks lovely.

Chalk and Cork Board Wall Set (From Target)

I think we all wait until spring until we clean because after the holidays we are in this weird Christmas hangover where we are depressed and mostly lazy. I let most of my stuff accumulate and it gets really really stressful until I finally get the courage to clean it all. While organizing, I decided to get something for my wall that could be decorative but also keep me in line with cleaning and projects, so I got this from Target!

Animal Crossing City Folk

I really needed to get a new game to get me through this vacation, and since I love Animal Crossing New Leaf, I decided to try out City Folk. I use this on my WiiU and it’s actually very relaxing after a long hard day of eating chocolate and sleeping to create an imaginary digital town (nerd alert).

What have all of you bought since Christmas? Hopefully these suggestions will help you get through the rest of winter!

Baking Haul | All Discounted!

_DSC0291_DSC0292_DSC0293_DSC0294_DSC0295_DSC0296_DSC0297

Hello there loves!

I did some shopping over the holiday weekend because there were amazing sales everywhere and I need some new baking supplies.

Old Fashioned Timer from Anthropologie, $7

As soon as I saw this in the sale section, I dove for it. I always see these at Anthro and never want to pay full price for them. I think they’re handy if you have a ton of things you’re baking at once and you need another timer. In all honesty, it was also just cute!

Gingerbread Cookie Mold, $10

I got this at TJMaxx and I can’t wait to try it out! I think you can also use this for sugar cookies or other types of cookies beside gingerbread. The company is French so you have to do some reading to see what it can be used for, but I thought it was so adorable! Silicone is generally super easy to bake with and I can’t believe I found one this cheap. I can’t wait to decorate little gingerbread cookies.

Holiday Sprinkles, $4

I got these at TJMaxx too, and all I can say is that they are adorable!

Holiday Baking Cups, $3

I found these at TJMaxx as well, and these are perfect in every way. We always make so many treats for Christmas time and now we are prepared to be even more festive. I’m already looking for cupcake recipes to use these bad boys. The best part about them is you don’t have to put them in a muffin tin! They can stand straight up on a cookie sheet and have batter poured into them. Very convenient and easy to use.

Copper Cookie Cutters, $8

Last year, my family went through a cookie cutter crisis. We had no idea what to do because we had lost all but two of our cookie cutters. We vowed to get more, and never did. When I saw these at TJMaxx, I had to get them. Firstly, because they are copper and wonderfully on trend. Second, the shapes are lovely and wintery, I can’t wait to use them.

Paper Straws, $2

I actually have some red and white striped straws like these, but these are soooo cute. I love the striped green and the red polka dots. I think these will be good for drinking eggnog or other festive drinks for a party. Also from TJMaxx, I was surprised at how many were in here for the price, and I’ve started thinking up ideas for what cute things we can use them for.

Now that I have all these new baking goodies, I’ve got to get baking!

Makeup I Wore In November

_DSC0299_DSC0301_DSC0302nailstopcoat

Hello there my lovelies! If you’re in the states, Happy Thanksgiving! I’ve just got done preparing a lot of food and treats and finally took a break to upload this. It’s so nice when you can take a break in between peeling potatoes and frosting a cheesecake. I wanted to share with you the makeup I’ve worn this month!

I’ve gone for a lot of natural brown colors this month with hints of gold here and there. I think it’s appropriate for November since next month will probably decked out in holiday goodness.

Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette- I’ve actually been using this every single day for over two weeks. Just look at those colors, gorgeous and still very natural for day time!

Luxie Eyeshadow, Color No. 290- I swatched this color all the way to the left of the colors from the palette so you can see how it looks on the skin. It’s a beautiful red-toned brown which is perfect for in your crease or under the eye. It’s a very normal looking brown, but it’s a great staple and I love it!

Essie Polish in “Summit of Style”- I actually bought this at Ocean State Job Lot and got an incredible price, so check there if you ever want cheap Essie! This gave an amazing gold foil effect that I love so much. I think it’s a great color of fall and a good transition for holiday nail art.

Seche Top Coat- I’m just not sure what I used before this. No matter what polish I put on, this keeps it in place without any chips. I think this time of year is hard as it gets cold and we are hard on our brittle nails (ew). But I keep repurchasing this and honestly will never use anything else. A wonderful product for any Christmas nail art that you want to save. Highly recommend that you buy this, or ask for it for Christmas!

What makeup/beauty products have you been using in November? Let me know!

Preparing For Winter Haul | Ulta & H&M

Winter Haul_DSC0245_DSC0250_DSC0254_DSC0255_DSC0256_DSC0257_DSC0258_DSC0259

Sweaters are my go-to’s almost every day, so this time of year is wonderful when I can snuggle up in them.

The only issue was, I really wanted a Christmas sweater. I know that Christmas is very far away and I need to get it together. But I predict that when all the Christmas sweaters come out, they’ll be overpriced and snatched off the shelf. I wanted to get a head start on finding my perfect holiday sweater, but that led to me going and buying a few more things! Before I knew it, I had collected a little haul for myself.

All of these really do have a winter theme because they all remind me of Christmas or winter beauty care. I stopped at Ulta to treat myself to a few new things to help my dry skin and I bought some basics at H&M. I’m also aware that I already bought a sweater at H&M this month, but I don’t even care. Both of them are my all time favorites, I might have to just wait a little to wear this new one.

Christmas Deer Sweater- As I was looking around H&M, my eyes fell on this and I picked it up right away. I imagined myself near Thanksgiving time or in mid december wearing it while drinking hot chocolate. I decided right then and there to buy it! I don’t have any other sweater like this and I’m proud to own my first “Christmas sweater,” eve if it was $35. It feels slightly scratchy, but it honestly kept me so warm that I had to take it off because I was roasting, so it’s great for freezing cold winter days.

Wine and White Basic Tees- You might say, “Heather, this is a winter haul, why did you buy t-sirts!” Well, because winter is about layering and honestly, you might need a good old basic t-shirt. They were having a 2-For-$10 deal which is insane. The quality of the shirts is great and you can’t go wrong with a staple plain shirt to go with your outfits.

Sally Hansen Miracle Cure- The fall and winter makes my nails flake like crazy (which is really gross) so I bought this to combat it, and so far it works great!

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water- I watch so many Youtubers who use this cleanser or something similar, and they rave about the results. I think it’s because it’s very light and still washes away bacteria and extra makeup. I use this after already cleansing because I feel like it gets everything else off for good. Also, It’s so cheap! This is my first time using Simple products and I’m very happy with it. I think it’s worth repurchasing!

Maybelline Color Sensational Matte in “Siren in Scarlet”- Ok, this color is very bright. I put it on and thought, wow, that is pretty red. However, I don’t have a great pigmented red that packs a punch like this one. I think this will be perfect to wear around the holidays with my Christmas outfits and such. The matte is very useful because it stays in place all day, but it really doesn’t crumble or seem too dry. I think this is their new collection out, so go check them out because the formulation is wonderful!

Let me know what you’re planning to buy to get ready for these colder winter months! I know it’s early, I’m just being enticed with the coziness of November.

Real Techniques Starter Set 2.0 Brushes | Review

brushes_DSC0239_DSC0240_DSC0241_DSC0242

Three day weekends really get me all mixed up.

I was positive today was Monday! I realized I had a blog post to put up for today and scrambled to get the pictures up. Basically, I was in desperate need of new makeup brushes. There’s nothing wrong with my old ones, but I need more of them. I never ever wash mine, and because of this, they are disgusting and my face breaks out. With more brushes to use, there is less dirty brushes and more time to clean some.

I only have one real techniques brush, and it’s actually one that came in this, so now I have two but I don’t even care.

The first one pictured is the Deluxe Crease Brush. I used this a couple days ago to put a very glittery shadow into my crease. All my other crease or blending brushes are quite small, and I was happy that this evenly blended every line. I hate having to go over the same spot over and over until it’s even. This brush made that so quick and simple, I was done in no time.

The second one is the Base Shadow Brush. I used this to pack on a shadow that isn’t usually pigmented, and it was a dream. It caught all the product and didn’t just fluff it around. Everything stayed right in the center of my eyelid. I have a few brushes that I use specifically for this, but this one is by far my favorite. I’m so happy to have another one in my collection. A basic shadow brush is always needed, and I never have a clean one.

The third one is the Brow Brush. I admittedly didn’t use this for my brows. The brush was way too big for them! I have a brow brush (MAC 266) and I never stray from it. But this is an excellent liner brush. There are a lot of times I want to use a shadow as a liner and this gives a perfectly straight line without being too harsh. It’s also perfect for getting on your lower lash line. I always needed a good brush for this, but my 266 was way too thin!

The last brush is the Fine Liner Brush. This is the brush I already had, but it’s also the brush I have to clean the most. Since this is for liner, you really have to clean it right after use or it gets disgusting, and this thing brush gives a straight, precise line every single time.

Have you used these? I know they are SUPER popular and I’m really late to the game, but I want to know your opinions.

September Ipsy Bag 2015

Nyx 3 Color Shadow Palette

I used this palette yesterday when I went to a huge fall festival and it was perfect! The colors were Autumnal and it was super easy to do a smokey eye.

Bayberry Naturals Rosehip & Hibiscus Moisturizer

I haven’t used this yet, but I love the look and feel of it at first look!

Evelyn Ona Cream Blush in “Ash”

I used this yesterday with the palette and I really loved the color. The only issue with this is that it’s quite small and I can never get enough on my finger without getting it under my nail. If it was slightly bigger, it also might be easier to blend. I was putting some on my hand and then warming that up before putting it on my face. This color is rusty and perfect for fall. After a few minute of blending on my cheeks, it was the perfect warm pink.

Not Soap Radio Revitalization Hand/Body Lotion in the scent “Persimmon + Plum”

I used this lotion immediately since my hands have been so dry and I was so impressed. Not only did it work to moisturize my skin, the scent was addicting, and I think I might try to track down a full-sized version!

TrèStique Mini Matte Lip Crayon in “Nantucket Nude”

I haven’t used this yet, but I am very curious about it since the other crayons I’ve got from this company were amazing. This color is a nude type of shade that I haven’t worn before, but I’m still experimenting how it will work with my skin tone.

What did you get in your monthly boxes in September? I also apologize for camera quality, I left my good one at school! This does the job though.

Ipsy| August 2015

Ipsy is one of those things that just brightens up the middle of your month.

As it’s the end of summer, this will be my last Ipsy bag before returning to school! I can’t believe the fall is almost here. I was so happy with my Ipsy bag this month. I can’t wait to share what I got with you!

Hikari Lip Gloss in  “Merlot”

I actually wore this lip gloss yesterday and I was in love with it. True to its name, the color looks like a deep wine. I love the pigmentation, but it is quite dark for summer. Fall will be a perfect time to wear this!

BWC Leave-in Conditioner

I used this once and I think it really made a difference. You use this after you’ve washed your hair and you keep it in until you’re done styling. I tried blow-drying my hair straight after using this, and my hair was significantly less frizzy. This says a lot for me because my hair becomes a frizz ball pretty easily! The summer humidity makes it worse, so this was an impressive product.

Starlooks Eyeliner Pen

You guys, this was AMAZING. I used it yesterday and I quickly swiped it on, and miraculously the liner was flawless! I didn’t have to fix either side. The tip of the pen is so easy to use, I was blown away! Removing it was very easy too, as it didn’t stick to my skin the way my usual liquid liner does.

Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in “Elegantly Wasted”

I put this beautiful shade on my nails last night and I’m in love. I think these powdery colors are perfect for in-between seasons because they are the perfect hue. This is a grey/periwinkle that will go with everything at any time of year.

Jesse’s Girl Eye Shadow Primer

I used this yesterday and today on my eyelids and have mixed feelings about this. It probably does a great job if you have a simple makeup look, but as far as liner and more complicated shadow goes, it transfers a little bit. Then again, it is significantly cheaper than Urban Decay’s Primer Potion, which I use all the time.

What did you think of your beauty boxes this month?

What’s I’m Using On My Hair | TRESemmé Perfectly (Un)Done Review

shampoohairshampoo2

TRESemmé recently did a campaign with one of my favorite bloggers and Youtubers, HelloOctober, with these products, and I felt the drive to go right down to the store and get them.

Suzie has really similar hair to mine texture wise, and when I saw how her hair dried naturally when she used the shampoo and conditioner, I thought it’d be worth a try. I’ve always loved the brand and thought you got really good quality for the money spent.

I don’t know exactly how expensive these were, but they are honestly worth it. They aren’t as big as the huge normal TRESemmé bottles that you always see in the store, but they still are big compared to other shampoos. The whole point to these is to give your hair a bit of texture without making your hair crazy. I love this because my hair is quite thick, and I don’t want it to be straight down when it dries, but I don’t want it to be unmanageable either. I’ve been using this for over a week now and have noticed that my hair dries in a nice wavy texture. It also is extremely soft, and the shampoo smells amazing!

Styling wise, I felt like my hair was well protected from any curling or straightening I did. I also just cut four inches off my head, so the styling goes much quicker. However, one of my favorite things to do using these products now is to let me hair air dry and then wear it in a French braid. Then, I sleep in it that night and take it out the next day. I get perfect waves that stay in place for hours.

The shampoo and conditioner really allow your hair to naturally stand on its own. I use Big Sexy Hair’s Powder Play to put into my roots when I do braids and things to give some volume at the crown of my head. I’ve also been into these types of hair ties that look like they have a knot on them (they are much better for your hair too).

In all, I’m so impressed with this shampoo and conditioner. This might be something I repurchase, and I would recommend it for thick hair (since it works well on mine!)

Ipsy Bag May 2015

ipsy mayipsy hairipsy lipipsy faceipsy browipsy shadow

Another month, another Ipsy bag.

I have to say, maybe it’s because it’s my birthday month, but I am in love with May’s Ipsy bag. Every single thing in it was something I would use. There were no new weird products that had barely anything in them. Everything was an amazing size with great assortment. I’m very pleased!

1. Organic Farm-A-Ceuticals Hair Oil

This stuff is pretty helpful for me since I just got bangs. That requires styling them every time I shower, so I need some protectant. This is organic and all-natural, and it comes with a dropper that is so easy to use!

2. Urban Decay Glide On Lip Pencil “Ozone”

I haven’t given this a try yet. However, it’s a genius idea. I hate matching lip liners to the many colors of lipsticks that I have. Lip liner is an essential if you want your color to stay put, so I’m so pleased with this! I haven’t used it yet, but I can’t wait to. The only weird thing about this is that it has a strange smell. Has anyone else noticed this? (haha)

3. Nuxe Face Cleansing and Make-Up Removing Gel

I’ve used this once and I’m hooked. It’s French, so I’ll need to figure out where I can get it since everything on the label is in another language.

4. Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color

I am really charmed by this product. My other eyebrow pencil was getting down to a nub, so I was so grateful to get this in my bag. But the reason I love it is because it’s so petite and cute! The size of the applicator is very thin, so drawing on brows is super easy. I’ve used it a few times and I love the way it draws on. The writing and everything on the packaging is beautiful, so this is another product I might repurchase.

5. Jesse’s Girl Pure Pigment Eye Dust “Brown Sugar”

I haven’t used this yet, but the color looks beautiful and blendable.

Ipsy Bag: April 2015

Confession: This may be my favorite Ipsy Bag. I have thoroughly loved everything inside of this! Every single item was something that I could put to good use. I just want to say one thing though, the lipstick packaging DID fall apart and I am calling Ipsy to see if they will give me a replacement.

But besides the weird lipstick (which has a great color) I am in love with this month’s Ipsy, especially the adorable makeup bag.
